We have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. We had Thanksgiving dinner at my in-law’s, Ed and Sherry, home on Lincoln Park West. They have a wonderful view of the city from their apartment. There, Sherry prepared a feast with turkey, mashed sweet and russet potatoes, green bean casserole, salad, jello and so much more. The wine flowed freely and everyone had a terrific time. The entire family was in attendance. Margie’s sister, Lara was with her husband John the their sons, Jackson and William. John’s parents, Ron and Eve experienced Thanksgiving a second time, having had Thanksgiving lunch with Eve’s parents in the Northern suburbs. Bruce, Margie’s brother came in with Rachel and Maye from New Jersey. We enjoyed talking, joking and catching up on what had happened since their last visit.
When dinner was done, out came the pies and tarts. I brought apple, pecan and pumpkin pies. I also brought along a pear almond tart that featured poached pears and almond cream. I served each dish with a bit of home-whipped cream. Boy, it all tasted great all together.
Today I am working on Ed and Sherry’s 50th wedding anniversary cake with a layer of German’s chocolate cake and a ganached covered cake. Here’s a picture of it unassembled. I’ll post another when I assemble it. Have a great Black Friday!
